New TOYOTA IQ serviceability with RAV lifts

"IQ" is a new Toyota city-car, a 4-seater with very limited dimensions (2995 mm length and 1680mm width). It will soon be introduced by Toyota to attack the small city-car market.

The new car will be launched in January 2009 in the following European Countries (for other countries please check with the local Toyota importer):

IQ’s short length makes it special but also critical in terms of service: Toyota Motor Europe asked RAV to investigate the possibility to lift IQs with existing lifts.

Hereafter the result of our tests:

RAV 2–post lifts - following RAV lifts are compatible:

RAV 4-post lifts and 600 series scissor lifts:

All compatible, including those with built-in wheel free lift (we recommend to supply 70mm high rubber pads). Jacking beam (not built-in wheel free lift) is required in case of wheel alignment measuring (specifically during run-out compensation) with 600 series scissor lifts.

RAV Underground cylinder lifts:

RAV1110K and RAV1131 are compatible.

RAV 500 series and 500 low profile double scissor lifts:

Recessed versions:

platform length must be maximum 1400mm (plus extensions), so standard RAV506I and RAV508I are compatible.

Surface installation versions:

special version are required since platform length must be max. 1320mm (plus extensions): RAV518Q, with 1320mm platforms, special run-up ramps/extensions and a different position of the adjustment valve pipes. Recessed version is not available.

A retrofit kit to modify existing RAV518T and RAV518NL is also available.

Toyota requires a free space of 70mm between the underbody and the platform surface to perform a specific service operation.

Therefore, 70mm rubber pads are needed.

Toyota Motor Italy (our home country is the biggest market for Toyota in Europe) already sent a newsletter to its authorized service network, mentioning the solutions available with RAV and other 3 suppliers, and delivering the following instructions:

• by 30/11/2008 all service centers should have at least one working bay capable of lifting IQ,
• by 30/06/2009 all DUOTEC stations shall have a lift capable to lift IQ (Duotec is the special working area where 2 operators perform the inspection),
• by 31/12/2009 all reception/inspection areas shall have a lift capable to lift IQ.
